Rain, Rain.......went away!

What a disappointment! At 11:00am, my son Spencer and I had just left the Babe Ruth field after dropping off some of the last team raffle tickets, and the sun was out, it was nice and warm, and the fields looked in very playable condition. If there was ever a day to play baseball...yesterday was it!

I think the League president had his tail between his legs yesterday after his early cancellation of opening day games. He even took some good ribbing from the comedians last night. One comedian said "Oh, Jeff, look, up in the sky...over there, it's a small little cloud".

Oh, well...what can you do. As someone said yesterday, if he didn't cancel it early, the day would have been a complete rain-out. Even the weathermen/women had to eat crow.

So, our next 1st game of the season is tomorrow night, Monday, April 14th. The first pitch is at 6:30 p.m. on the Lower field. Please let's have all the players at the field by 5:30 p.m. so we can jog, stretch, run and throw before taking infield/outfield practice at 6:00 p.m. We are the home team and will be in the 1st base dug-out. Our opponent is the other Lunenburg D2 team, so it should be a good rivalry game for our season opener.

In honor of Comedy Night last night, I'll leave you with a joke. " This rookie pitcher, with a big head, was starting the game for the home team, and in the 1st inning he proceeded to walk the first 5 batters he faced. The manager of the club went out to the mound and took him out of the game for another pitcher. The rookie walked back to the dug-out and said to his teammates, "Can you believe this guy. He took me out of the game just when I was working on a no-hitter"".

Almost Gametime

Well, our first game of the regular season is scheduled for this coming Saturday, April 12th, at 11:00am on the Upper Field. We are the first game of the new 2008 season. Our opponent is the North Middlesex team from our conference, the Townsend Ford sponsored team, wearing the scarlet uniforms.

After the league-wide opening ceremonies which begin at 9:00am on the Upper Field, we will take the field to kick-off this much awaited season.

Our players have been practicing hard as a team since early January, indoors, either at the Diamond King batting cages or at Franklin Pierce University's "Bubble". We've had just two practices outdoors within the past week, but with all the indoor practices and several players taking private lessons over the winter months, we are all anxious to get things rolling.

Hopefully Mother Nature will provide us with enough favorable weather to play baseball on Saturday. Best of luck to our players & coaches, and of course to our opponents.

Welcome to my newest baseball blog, the Lunenburg Baseball blog. This site will be dedicated primarily to the activities of our Lunenburg Division 2 baseball team, sponsored by Ed's Service, which I am the head coach. As time and enthusiasm permits, I may also add items about the other Lunenburg D2 team, managed by Jim Basile and sponsored by Hannaford Supermarkets. And, of course, news of our parent team, the Lunenburg D1 team, managed by Bryan Bradley, may be found here.
